Lifelong Learning

Lifelong Learning promotes best practices in early learning for parents and caregivers of young childre.  The task force has a successful email parenting message program that reaches 900 Clallam County families each week.  It promotes the 7 Skills Every Child Needs from Dr. Ellen Galinsky’s leading research (Mind in the Making), places recommended early reader books in school and public libraries in the county, promotes best practices for adults working with children in using recommended books and provides Galinsky’s “Prescriptions” – books that help, offer solutions and comfort for children and families regarding common child behaviors and difficult circumstances in families’ lives.  The Task Force is also working to increase the number of volunteers in local schools, family development and child-centered programs.


  • Increase outreach to state and county elected officials about the Seven Essential Life Skills.
  • Continue to spread awareness among parents and the general community about the Seven Essential Life skills.
  • Research and select an early learning program that has proven to be successful in child care centers and explore implementation in Clallam County.
  • Advocate and plan for increased volunteer participation at the Kindergarten level in the Port Angeles school district.
