Dear Visitor,Free YMCA Memberships for 7th Graders
Just a reminder that all 7th grade students on the Olympic Peninsula can receive a FREE one-year membership to the YMCA. “To activate the free membership, 7th-graders should bring their school ID or report card and a parent or guardian with them to the YMCA of Port Angeles or the YMCA of Sequim. Parents should provide the required membership information and youth can begin to use the membership benefits immediately.” Registration begins as soon as 6th grade ends!

SAFE: Suicide Awareness for Everyone
Last week of June, various locations across Clallam County
SAFE trainings are for anyone – professional and non-professionals – over the age of 15. It is designed to raise suicide awareness and teach basic skills, and is based on the nationally recognized QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) “Gatekeeper” training. Training locations include Forks, Chimacum, Port Angeles, and Sequim. See the event flyer for more information and to register. Registrations are due June 20th.
Lower Elwha 5th Annual Resource Fair
Wednesday, June 27, noon – 4:00 pm, Port Angeles
Providers, community members, friends, and neighbors are all invited to the 5th Annual Resource Fair sponsored by the Lower Elwha Family Advocacy Program. Information on legal, medical, financial, employment, education, and housing resources will be provided. Organizations interested in sharing information should RSVP by June 26 to firstname.lastname@example.org
Community Family Night: Awareness
Wednesday, June 27, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm, Port Anglees
Ellen Fetchiet, Mental Health Professional Counselor, and Beatriz Arakawa, Program Managers and Victim Advocate, will present: “Why did I not sense it, sooner? Violence and Substance Abuse,” and an overview of services provided by the Lower Elwha Family Advocacy program. Free dinner and arts/crafts for children.
Public Welfare Foundation
The Public Welfare Foundation accepts Letters of Intent for funding in three general areas: Youth Justice, Criminal Justice, and Worker's Rights. Visit their website for more information. Inconsistent State Policies Complicate Response to Opioid Epidemic
This article discusses how Good Samaritan laws and laws governing Naloxone prescriptions can effect what happens when someone overdoses on opioids. According to the article, in Washington state someone who reports an overdose may be arrested, but will not be charged or prosecuted. Washington also has three out of four laws governing Naloxone prescriptions and usage.
