Make Parenting A Pleasure
Begins October 20, 6:00 – 8:30 pm, Makah Head Start
This 7-session class, presented by Parenting Matters Foundation/First Teacher, is free and open to anyone helping raise young children. Topics include stress busting, communication, positive attention, and more. Free family dinner, child care, and children’s book provided each session. Basic Mediation and Conflict Resolution Training
October – Six required classes, begins October 18, Port Angeles
This 40-hour class, offered by local trainer Laura O’Neal, is appropriate for people working with the public, such as a human resources manager or business owner, as well as people interested in becoming a mediator. Minimal scholarships are available. Register on-line.
Opioid Epidemic Overview

Clallam County Health and Human Services is sponsoring this presentation by Dr. Stephen Anderson, M.D., Emergency Medicine Physician, MultiCare Auburn Medical Center. He also serves on the National Board of Directors for the American College of Emergency Physicians and presented a session at the Attorney General Summit in June 2017 entitled “Dying to Ease the Pain: WA State Experience with Opiate Overdoses.” Medical Personnel, law enforcement, first responders, social workers, educators, behavioral health providers, and anyone wanting to learn more about the opioid epidemic are welcome to attend. Washington State Prevention Summit

Registration is now open for the 2018 Washington State Prevention Summit. The goal of the Prevention Summit is to provide an enriching and culturally competent training and networking opportunity for youth, volunteers and professionals working toward the prevention of substance abuse, violence and other destructive behaviors as well as integrating such prevention efforts with primary health care. National Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and there are lots of free resources available on line to help prevent bullying. Visit stopbullying.gov for resources and research related to bullying. The Committee for Children (headquartered in Seattle) has resources to help children promoting “bystander power.”
The Health of Parents and Their Children: A Two-Generation Inquiry
This new Child Trends publication looks at the interconnectedness between the health of parents and children, and the possibility of improving the health of children by improving the health of parents.
Washington Women’s Foundation Pooled Fund Grants
The Washington Women’s Foundation seeks to support community organizations that support the long-term goals of increasing equity and reducing disparity. Every year the Foundation awards five large impact Pooled Fund Grants to nonprofit organizations throughout Washington State. Grants of up to $100,000 are provided—one in each of these funding areas: arts and culture, education, environment, health, and human services. Organizations are encouraged to apply for general operating and capacity-building support. Letters of inquiry due November 5.
2019 AmeriCorps State Competitive Request for Grant Applications
Serve Washington is pleased to announce the Federal Fiscal Year 2019 AmeriCorps State Competitive Request for Grant Applications (RFGA) to meet state and local challenges through service and volunteer action. Applicants are encouraged to participate in the online technical assistance session via WebEx on October 12, 2018. Two sessions will be held for different audiences: 10:00 a.m. - New and Recompeting Applicants, 2:00 p.m. - Continuation Applicants. Due date: November 5.
